Brazil stocks lower at close of trade; Bovespa down 1.20%


Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the declined 1.20%.

The best performers of the session on the were Qualicorp SA (SA:), which rose 4.95% or 0.87 points to trade at 18.46 at the close. Meanwhile, Multiplan SA (SA:) added 2.65% or 1.50 points to end at 58.05 and Klabin Unt (SA:) was up 1.82% or 0.31 points to 17.32 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Embraer SA (SA:), which fell 4.48% or 0.76 points to trade at 16.20 at the close. Vale SA (SA:) declined 3.99% or 1.11 points to end at 26.73 and Cyrela Brazil Realty SA (SA:) was down 3.54% or 0.35 points to 9.54.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 188 to 159 and 36 ended unchanged.

The , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 0.94% to 37.43.

Gold for February delivery was down 0.43% or 5.10 to $1172.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 2.07% or 1.03 to hit $50.80 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract fell 0.39% or 0.55 to trade at $141.57 .

USD/BRL was down 0.26% to 3.3740, while EUR/BRL fell 1.50% to 3.5827.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.83% at 101.11.
